Although Death Valley has the reputation of being quite arid, there are still many interesting plants within the park and in areas immediately adjacent to the park. The impression most people have of Death Valley is that it is an arid desert where few living organisms can flourish. Much of the park is quite arid, however, there are springs and high mountain peaks within the boundaries of the park where plant life is quite abundant. In fact, while the lowest elevation in Death Valley is below sea level, the highest peak pushes up above 11,000 feet! This results in some surprising variety in terms of plant life within the park!
