Ecology is the study of plants, animals and their environments and how all of these affect each other.

The sun provides the energy for nearly all life on Earth. Solar energy is needed for plants to be able to manufacture food. It also provides heat which is necessary for all life.

Plants - the basis for all life in freshwater
All green plants, from single-celled algae to the largest rushes take in carbon dioxide from the air, through their leaves, and water, usually absorbed through the roots.

They then use the energy from sunlight to convert the carbon dioxide and water to glucose, a type of sugar, and oxygen, which is released back into the air.
