Waterwatch Adelaide & Mount Lofty Ranges - Benthic Zone

Where do macroinvertebrates live?
The Benthic Zone
The benthic zone includes the mud, silt, sand and rotting leaf-litter on the bottom of the waterbody, and the water just above it. Benthic algae are attached to the surface of substrates and are an important food source for benthic animals such as flatworms and non-biting midge larvae.
