An octopus swimming around tide pools during a low tide event at Leo Carillo State Beach in Malibu, California on 30 August 2008 at approximately 3:30 pm.

Video segment 1: For the first 50 seconds the octopus is seen swimming freely in the tide pools between the rocks.

Video segment 2: From 0:51 to 2:09 you see the octupus's tentacles beneath the large purple rock at screen right. Every so often (at 1:19 and 2:43) you see the octopus squirt water and sand out from underneath the rock. I'm not sure what he was doing by squirting sand and water. It looked as though he was moving some shells and small pebbles around underneath the big rock.

Video segment 3: From 2:09 to 3:23 you can see the octopus's tentacles beneath the same large purple rock (center screen), but you are viewing the octopus from a different angle. Every so often (at 2:20 and 2:43) you see the same behavior: A squirt of water and sand from beneath the rock.

During the last segment of this video (3:24 to 3:40), I returned to the same large purple rock under which the octopus had secured itself in the previous segments of the video, and find that the octopus has moved on.
