Scientists have discovered that tiny bone-devouring zombie worms called Osedax have the unique ability to release bone-melting acid. The worms are only 3-4 centimeters in length and have no mechanisms to drill or break through bone. The females release an acid that helps them devour and inhabit dead whale skeletons because they eat the collagen and fat from the bones.
